The Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) on a bird table. This morning as I was having my quiet time with the Lord, I gazed out my kitchen window at the wonders of his creation. In this case, I focused on the birds flocking to our bird feeder and the squirrels eating the seed that had made its way to the ground.

My son and his wife recently purchased the bird feeder for us, and my husband and I have enjoyed it so much. So have the birds and the squirrels! In fact, so many frequentsquirrel the spot, I’ve come to think of this little area in our yard as a sanctuary for them. They seem to feel pretty safe. Yesterday one of the squirrels climbed up on our kitchen window ledge and peeked through the window!

As I was thinking about our bird and squirrel sanctuary this morning, the thought came to me that God is my sanctuary. He protects me . . . provides for me . . . and gives me peace even in the midst of storms. Recently he brought the thought to me that he has put a blanket of peace over my anxieties, and he reminded me to keep my eyes on him.

Lord, thank you for being my sanctuary.

I love you, Lordyou are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. (Psalm 18:1-2 NLT)
